  2. Scientific Description Caused by a cutaneous infection with micrococcus sedentorius, dermatophilus congolinsies or species of crynebacterium actinomyces or streptomyces. Under appropriate conditions, these bacteria proliferate and produce proteinases that destroy the stratum corneum. This then creates pits and the bad smell that comes with pitted keratolysis is assumed to be a product of sulfur compound byproduct.

  3. General Description Pitting on the feet in little crater like spots that produce an odor and eventually with for large white spots. This can also happen on the palms of the hands. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=pitted+keratolysis&hl=en&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=608&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=euRW1sDIXxGy6M:&imgrefurl=http://www.skinsight.com/adult/pittedKeratolysis.htm&docid=ZWpf3qtCLsS-MM&w=320&h=240&ei=fe2NTqujBceisQLOopmVAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=650&vpy=269&dur=856&hovh=192&hovw=256&tx=126&ty=94&page=2&tbnh=123&tbnw=172&start=18&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:18&surl=1

  5. Causes Moist feet is what allows bacteria to overgrow on the feet. The byproducts of this bacteria causes the outer surface to break down and form pits. These byproducts also produce a fowl odor. It usually happens with people who are marathon runners or industrial workers.

  6. Cure to the Disease • Topical antibiotics (clindamycin or benzoil peroxide) • When bathing, use an antibacterial soap and dry them well with a blow dryer and apply antiperspirant spray • Wear socks made of cotton or an absorbent, synthetic material and change them frequently, especially when you do strenuous workouts

  7. Worst Case Scenario There is no death associated with this disease, on the other hand, the odor is socially unacceptable. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=pitted+keratolysis&hl=en&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=608&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=Glo2rQflgS6rPM:&imgrefurl=http://www.skinatlas.com/pitted%2520keratolysis/pitted_keratolysis1.htm&docid=qgmZeZwafUjTIM&w=375&h=500&ei=fe2NTqujBceisQLOopmVAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=830&vpy=109&dur=352&hovh=115&hovw=86&tx=71&ty=137&page=3&tbnh=115&tbnw=86&start=39&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:39&surl=1
