Smiling Faces Recognition Using Advanced Machine Learning Techniques

This project focuses on recognizing smiling faces using a set of photographs featuring the same individual with different expressions. The team, including programmers and a scientist, developed a program utilizing various machine learning techniques, including Support Vector Machines (SVM) and neural networks. The task involved distinguishing whether faces in the provided photos were smiling, with statistics generated based on the implemented methods. Future work aims to enhance the program's capabilities in real-time video analysis.

The problem • Smiling faces. • Input: a set of photos of the same person with different face expressions and the information that some of them are smiling faces  • Task: to write a program (e.g., neural network) recognizing the smiling faces of the same person • Output: smiling or not, and the statistics of the implemented method.  • Difficulty: hard
