Facts • Pythagoras was born in Samos. • He was an Ionian Greek Philopherand mathematician. • Founder of the religious movement called Pythagoreanism. • Most of the information about Pythagoreanism was written down centuries after he lived, so we have very little reliable information about him.

Facts • Pythagoras traveled widely at a young age visiting Egypt and other places seeking knowledge. • Around 530B.C. he finally settled in Croton, a Greek colony in southern Italy. • His followers pursued the religious rites and practices developed by Pythagoras, called the Pythagorean Therom.

  5. The Pythagorean Therom • The Pythagorean Therom is that in any right triangle , the area of the squares whose side is the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares whose sides are the two sides that meet at a right triangle.
