Installation & Set Up • April 10, 2007: Official opening to public • May 2007–January 2008: Installation of ceiling-mounted hoist system, sound system, light dimmer system, wireless Tablet PC controller, etc. • PowerPoint slides projected on far wall keep pace with SOS playlists • Presentations are mostly live • Autoplay only when docents not available • Usually without sound to facilitate conversation • Approx. 12 Docents; 3 bilingual • Formal & apprenticeship • University faculty, graduate students & staff also trained to present for college & K-12 classes • Most common topics: • Weather/climate on Earth • Solar system tour Fiske & NOAA staff, March 2007 Public at Art Exhibit Reception, February 2008

Original playlists by CU Faculty & Students • Faculty at University of Colorado (CU) are exploring use of SOS for their own research and pedagogical aims. • Departments include: • Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences • Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences • Geography • Geological Sciences • Museum Studies Solar vortices model, Dr. Juri Toomre & Ben Brown Magnetic anomalies on topographic map of Mars, Dr. Brian Hynek Graduate and undergraduate students in Engineering and other fields are developing new uses for SOS as well. Private rentals, Art exhibits, & other novel uses of SOS Corporate logo of Boulder-based company used during private rental "Man in the Moon" image displayed during private rental "Index Cards" image installed as part of art exhibit curated by CU faculty Band logo displayed during free music concert on CU Astronomy Day
