  3. Standardizing and Training Markers – Objective Marking • Reviewing marking guidelines • Providing answer key with acceptable and unacceptable answers • For open-ended Qs, collating alternative answers during first marking • Double marking

Speaking Standardization session of 60 mins 1 day prior to the test All level instructors involved in marking Familiarizing markers with speaking criteria and feedback form, clarifying criteria if necessary Viewing samples and trying to reach consensus grades Assessors and interlocutors swapping roles Assessors and interlocutors trying to reach a consensus Standardizing and Training Markers – Subjective Marking • Writing • Reviewing marking guidelines • Standardization session of 60 mins on the day of marking • All level instructors involved in marking • Marking samples, trying to reach consensus grades (defining ground rules, setting standards, clarifying criteria) • First and second marking & grade compilation (3rd marking if necessary)
