  1. W1 Financing Salmon Recovery – What Will it Take? What is the essence of the platform for the topic? (2-3 sentences) The ten year objectives may require a doubling of the effort. Maintaining and possibly increasing funding will require a consolidated effort by all levels of government and other interested parties. Shortfall would be addressed by tighter priority settings at the regional an watershed scale and a more ambitious fundraising strategy. More details on funding strategies will be developed in leadership group which will convene shortly.

Acceptance of both a watershed and regional role in setting project priorities. Acceptance of the shared responsibility among governments to pay for salmon recovery. General support for seeking alternative funding sources (e.g. mitigation) Agreement around establishing a leadership group to move forward the financing strategy for the recovery plan. Representation should include Tribes, NGO, business leaders, watershed and regional elected officials, communication experts, along with government agencies.

Uncertainty of how to respond to the variable local responsibility, demographic structure, and watershed needs. Development of a regional communication process to share the story of Shared Strategy and generate enthusiasm and support of the public. To tell the compelling story in everyday language. Be more compelling and bold about your message. Tell the story to both retain current levels of funding and open up to aggressively seek new sources of funding.
