Converting Centimetres to Millimetres: A Quick Guide for Designers

In design, precise measurements are crucial, and we often use millimetres (mm) or metres (m) instead of centimetres (cm). This guide explains how to convert cm to mm and vice versa. Remember, 10 mm equals 1 cm, so to convert cm to mm, you multiply by 10, and when converting mm to cm, you divide by 10. This simple relationship ensures you maintain accuracy in various design fields such as architecture, engineering, graphic design, car design, and construction. Practice converting with the provided examples to solidify your understanding.

  1. Name____________________________ Tutor Group _____ Converting Centimetres to Millimetres. In design we either use mm (millimetres) or m (metres) to measure objects, we do not use cm (centimetres). This is because architects, engineers, car designers, graphic designers and builders only use millimetres and centimetres. 10mm = 1cm so 25mm will equal 2.5cm (just divide or times by 10, or move the decimal point). Remember, mm are smaller than cm, so if you are converting mm the number should get bigger (it’s as simple as adding 0). 1 cm = _____ mm 10 cm = _____ mm 70 cm = _____ mm 15 cm = _____ mm 70 cm = _____ mm 1.5 cm = _____ mm 10.5 cm = _____ mm 7.5 cm = _____ mm 0.5 cm = _____ mm 3.3 cm = _____ mm 10.6 cm = _____ mm 5.4 cm = _____ mm • 10 mm = _____ cm • 100 mm = _____ cm • 70 mm = _____ cm • 40 mm = _____ cm • 20 mm = _____ cm • 25 mm = _____ cm • 110 mm = _____ cm • 65 mm = _____ cm • 53 mm = _____ cm • 17 mm = _____ cm • 7 mm = _____ cm • 1 mm = _____ cm
