This progress report outlines the significant milestones achieved in the GabEECE project during Spring 2005. Key accomplishments include the finalized Gantt chart, drafted Tx schematic, and the ordering of major components such as the VCSEL and ROSA. The report emphasizes the implementation of crucial design elements to decouple power connections and mitigate high-frequency noise. Additionally, it provides updates on the project website and outlines plans for the upcoming week, including the finalization of schematics and initiation of board design.

Progress Report • Finalized Gantt Chart • Drafted Tx Schematic • Submitted for first review • Ordered Major Components • Drafted Bill of Materials • Website now Live
Schematic Design Theory • Must decouple all the power connections of the circuit to ensure that high frequency noise on the power line does not interfere with sensitive parts of the circuit. • Capacitors near every power and ground connection. • POT1 is used to change the magnitude of the output • POT2 is used to control the output power of the VCSEL • The three element filter (C3,L1,C4) in the top left provides additional protection from VCC noise by bandlimiting the signal • In series with each potentiometer is a 'limiting resistor' that should protect the circuit if the POT resistance too low
Ordered Major Components • VCSEL: AOC HFE419x-441 • ROSA: AOC HFD3180-108 • Expected Delivery: 2/22/05
Project Website • Functional and up-to-date content http://www.ee.duke.edu/~mbrooke/ECE135/2005_01_Spring/G1/
Upcoming Week • Finalize Tx Schematic • Draft and Finalize Rx Schematic • Initiate Board Design • Target - Submit for review 2/28/05 • Order Remaining Components
