Business Drivers • There is little or no start-up cost and no capital investment • Rapid Deployment, Low Maintenance Cost • Services can be quickly and easily scaled up or down with no penalty. • Applications development without a dedicated OS. Ex: Force.com, Microsoft Azure • Cloud is used for sharing and collaborating, connecting mobile and non mobile devices through web applications. (PC World / Wired.com)

WHEN WILL IT BE READY FOR USE?  (KEY RISKS) • It’s already being used with Windows 7 along with Windows mobile devices Key Risks: • Security and Privacy Risks • Attacks via the management interface, incomplete data deletions, identity management • Technical issues and service assurance • Exposure to service failures • Reliance on the Internet for connectivity • Financial • Expensive and/or inflexible licensing terms from software vendors • Unclear return on investment (ROI) (total cost, maturity of current environment, costs may not be reduced) (Gartner / PC Magazine)

  6. Technologies Cloud Will Replace • ERP Systems • HDD based devices, Personal computers. -Personal computers ex: Laptops and Tablets. • Dedicated Sever Hosting, Companies will start sharing main frames. -Single Mainframe for a group of Companies. (PC World / PC Magazine)

Who Is Using It • Ford and Toyota are implementing cloud systems in future vehicles. - Microsoft SYNC System. • Netflix and Amazon are starting to focus more towards streaming digital media. - Streaming content online. • Microsoft, Google, and AT&T are planning to share main frame. - Sharing a single data center to cut cost. Evaluation + Cloud computing is used EVERYDAY! + Cuts costs for USERS and PROVIDERS + The possibilities are endless According to Gartner Group’s Hype Cycle for New Technologies (2009) Cloud Computing is at the peak of inflated expectations In 2010, Cloud computing is on its way to the “trough of disillusionment” Negatives of Cloud Computing -electricity -relies 100% on internet connection -security risk (data) -Hard copies of data? (2010)
