  5. BigSun Scholarship • All student athletes are eligible for this award • Must be a senior attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in a sport at that institution or community • www.bigsunathletics.com for more info • Deadline: June 22, 2012 • Amount of Award: $500

  6. UNC-Pembroke • UNCP will provide a 4-year Merit Scholarship (tuition, fees, and books) for students interested in the Brady School of Medicine Early Assurance Program. • Minimum 3.7 GPA and combined score of 1100 reading and math • DEADLINE: February 1, 2012

  19. 2012 “People Helping People” Scholarship • Must be a US citizen and a resident of NC under NCGS 116 143.1 and is eligible for in-state tuition. • Exemplify the membership leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement. • Applicants should not be a director, employee, or family member of an employee of the State Employee’s Credit Union or the SECU Foundation. • DEADLINE: April 5, 2012

  21. Financial Aid Workshop • Financial Aid Counselors from UNC-Pembroke will be at PurnellSwett Saturday February 25, 2012 from 9:00-12:00 to assist students in completing their FAFSA form. • Please bring W-2/ 2011 tax returns. Parents are encouraged to attend.

  22. Fayetteville State University • Fayetteville State University will conduct on-site admissions during lunch February 2, 2012. Please have completed application, transcript and $35.00 application fee.

Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship • National Society of the Colonial Dames of American in North Carolina will award $3000 and a runner up of $1000 to two North Carolina high school seniors to be used at a college or university. • Applications can be picked up in Guidance • DEADLINE: February 2, 2012

  24. Selective Service • If you are a man ages 18-25 and living in the US, then you must register with Selective Service. According to law a man must register with Selective Service within 30 days of his 18th birthday. • Register at any Post Office or online at http://ww.ss.gov

  25. KFC Scholars Program • High school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board. Seniors must plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree, be a US citizen, 2.75 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Apply online at www.kfcscholars.org starting December 1 until February 8, 2012.

  30. Early Dismissal Kids!!! • Today, Monday, January 30th, all 3rd and 4th period early dismissal kids must report to the media center during their early dismissal period to have their picture ids made.

  31. HOSA • HOSA members will meet after school in Ms. Patterson’s room Thursday, February 2nd and will take a HOSA picture.

  38. PSRC ONLINE • PSRC Online Orientation will be held at Purnell Swett February 9th, 2012 from 4-6pm. If students register for an online class this spring you must attend orientation, no excuses! • Online classes begin Tuesday, February 7th.

  48. Answer: • The error in this sentence occurs at C.  The participle “switching” cannot function as the main verb of the sentence and should be replaced by the present tense verb phrase “are switching.”
