This study compares maternal health and birth outcomes between U.S.-born and foreign-born African American women in Colorado, based on data from the African American PRAMS study. The research identifies notable differences in prenatal care access, insurance coverage, and experiences related to language and conceptual barriers. Despite similar entry into prenatal care, foreign-born women often rely on health department clinics more than private practices and face different insurance coverage situations. Insights into the unique challenges and characteristics of these populations are crucial for tailored healthcare strategies.
