What is Social experimentation? - Testing of new approach to address social needs - Independent Evaluation - Impact through mainstreaming or up-scaling Why the need for Social experimentation? - Growing Social needs - Weakening of intergenerational solidarity - Living longer-working longer - Unsustainability of current models of care - More one person households of older people - A broken economic model?
Edinburgh pilot action Aim: Extending Good Practice on Age Management Policies and Practices in Small and Medium Sized Companies and Organizations Process: - semi structured interviews with management and workers in 6 employers - age management brochures, tailored age management feedback, age management workshop - follow up interviews with intervention group + interviews with control group Outcomes: - more interest in age management from management - changes in requirement procedures (not „discriminating“ older people) - positive effort to change perception that certain jobs are suitable, or unsuitable, for certain age groups - look sympathetically at request for part time and flexible working - larger campaign / debate is needed, workshop and bouchore are not enought
Kington pilot action - rural area Aim: Unlocking the potential of people over 50 Process: - An intensive program of support for older people looking for employment or economic engagement through enterprise - Community based and managed enterprise providing training, support and information to residents of the local community. - Individual mentoring - Monthly meetings - program according to members (12x) Outcomes: - new motivation gained (got out from depression) - 4 of 10 in job - 2 based own business - 4 wanted to be more active in voluntary work
Maribor pilot action Aim: Rethinking of older people participation at the Labour Market in Slovenia - new job clubs focused on older unemployed Process: - Orientation phase - 5 monthly modules (Employment, Communication, Health, Active life, Lifelong learning) - comparisonwith official job club provided by employment services Outcomes: - the need of well-informed officers - more trained mentors - allow jobseeker to attend modules according to their wish - more emphasis on active job search - members felt too well in the group and they didn‘t wanted quit it
České Budějovice pilot action Aim: Re-thinking enterprise support for older people Process: - The built up interest in entrepreneurship - Assistance at setting up a business - Assistance at retaining business Outcomes: - 6 of 23 started the business and other 10 got employed - in control group only 2 of 51 set up business - the motivation phase need to be strictly targeted to older unemployed - entrepreneurship can‘t solve the problem of unemployment of older people (it‘s suitableonly for 5-10% of the target group)
