  1. Liver Disease The liver is the second largest organ in the body sits just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen. The liver plays an important role in many bodily functions, including: Helping blood to clot (thicken) Cleaning your blood - removing toxins (poisons), such as alcohol, from the body Metabolizing cholesterol, glucose (sugar), iron and controlling their levels Fighting infections and illness Digesting food - releasing bile, a liquid that breaks down fats and aids digestion Storing energy for when you need it Being involved in protein production Regenerating or growing back after injury Liver disease can be inherited (genetic) or caused by a variety of factors that damage the liver. Viruses cause some of them, like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. Others can be the result of drugs, poisons or drinking too much alcohol. Obesity is also associated with liver damage. If the liver forms scar tissue because of an illness, it's called cirrhosis, which can lead to liver failure, a life-threatening condition.        

  2. Liver disease doesn't usually cause any obvious signs or symptoms until it's fairly advanced and the liver is damaged. A number of liver function tests (LFTs) are available to test the proper function of the liver. These test for the presence of enzymes in blood that are normally most abundant in liver tissue, metabolites or products, including: serum proteins, serum albumin, serum globulin, alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, thromboplastin time. There are more than a hundred different kinds of liver disease. These are some of the most common diseases that fall into the hepatic category and the biomarkers as well as the related IVD antibodies used for diagnosis being provided below by Creative Biolabs: prothrombin time, partial Hepatitis - inflammation (swelling) of the liver as the result of a viral infection or liver damage caused by exposing to harmful substances such as alcohol. There are several different types of hepatitis from A to E. Some types will pass without any serious problems, while others can be long-lasting (chronic) and cause scarring of the liver (cirrhosis), loss of liver function and, in some cases, liver cancer. Fibrosis - a process that inflamed liver starts to scar under no treatment. (Scar tissue is a kind of fibrous tissue.) Scar tissue can keep blood from flowing

  3. through your liver. As more scar tissue builds up, your liver may not work as well as it once did. If your liver disease is diagnosed and treated successfully at this stage, there's still a chance that your liver can heal itself over time. Cirrhosis - a stage that your liver may become too seriously scarred to be reversed. Cirrhosis can lead to a number of complications, accompanied by a series of symptoms including: bleed or bruise easily, jaundice, skin itch, insulin resistance and type-2 diabetes. Liver Failure - a life-threatening condition that demands urgent medical care. It means that your liver is losing or has lost all of its function. The first symptoms of liver failure are often nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, and diarrhea. As progresses, confusion, disorienting, and drowsiness gradually appear. Immediate treatment is needed. The medical team will try to save whatever part of the liver that still works. If this is not possible, the only option may be a liver transplant.
