  3. 10 Commandments for Living with People • Greet people with a cheerful greeting • Smile at people, it takes 72 muscles to frown and only 14 to smile • Call people by their name • Be friendly, if you want friends, be a friend • Be alert to give help • Be cordial • Be genuinely interested in people • Be generous with praise and courteous with criticism • Have a good sense of humor • Be considerate of others

  6. Hallway Procedures We will practice the Life Principles of Courtesy, Patience, and Respect. • Walk quietly • Walk down the right side of the hall • Walk around people, not between them • Hands to yourself at all times • Wipe shoes on mat when wet, to avoid squeaking on floor

  7. Substitute Procedures • All procedures will be followed without exception • Students will be respectful if not more so with our guest • Students not following procedures will be dealt with accordingly • Things will be different when the teacher is absent • All teacher materials are off limits to students (games, chalkboards, etc...)

  8. Labeling Papers • Name # • Date • Grade/Hour Locate in top, right-hand, corner of paper.

  9. Sharpening Pencils Procedures • Pencils will be provided for your use in class • Pens in class will only be used for correcting or as assigned by teacher • Turn pencils in to the broken pencil container before leaving each day, or when needing a sharpened pencil • A student will be assigned the job of keeping pencils sharpened

  10. Turning in Papers • Papers are due when instructed. All papers will be placed in appropriate labeled and colored file. • Homework is due when entering in the morning. You may take a few minutes to use a tool, ruler, compass, etc… all papers must have your name written in the upper right-hand corner or they will be trashed and a zero given for no homework. • 1st quarter – late work accepted up to one week after due date with 10% subtracted each day. • 2nd – 4th quarter – late work will be accepted one day late only with 1 lower grade. After that the assignment will be accepted and the “I/O” will be replaced with a 60%.

  11. Pledge Procedures • All students will stand at attention • Right hand over heart • Left hand at side or behind back • Face the flag or if a flag is not present, face where sound is coming from • Always stop in hallway or classroom when announcements start

  12. Assembly Procedures • Sit quietly and use active listening skills. Focus your eyes, ears, and heart on the speaker • Save questions and comments until the speaker asks for them • Wait until the speaker recognizes you before you make a comment or ask a question. Always speak in complete sentences. • Listen to the questions and comments from others as you may hear your own question asked and answered. • Make sure your question or comment is of a positive nature and is about the subject the speaker discussed • The speaker will feel appreciated if the audience is attentive and practicing the life skills of respect and courtesy • During assembly students will not visit with neighbors • Backpacks will be held in your lap, not on your back. Items will not be removed from backpack during assembly

  13. Greeting Procedures “Hello, my name is _______. And your name is? Welcome to Mrs. Cherry’s history class. How may I help you?” “Please come in.” Turn and face the class and say, “Mrs. Cherry, and class, this is _______.” Class responds, “Good Morning/Afternoon _______, welcome to our class.”

Procedures for Crutcho • Students will walk down the halls at all times • Students will not go into another class or disturb another class • Students will keep the restroom neat, and will not play or talk with others • Students will remain in a straight line, with hands to their sides, not touching the walls or others, walking down the right side of the hallway • Restroom breaks between classes only

Class Creed • We will value one another as unique and special individuals • We will not laugh or make fun of a person’s mistakes, use sarcasms, or putdowns • We will use good manners saying please and thank you, excuse me, and let others go first. • We will cheer each other to success • We will help one another whenever possible • We will recognize every effort and applaud it • We will encourage each other to do our best

  16. Procedures for Lining Up • Wait until called to line up or when you hear the bell • Line up in ABC order, teacher will tell you to line up facing forward, backwards, by first or last name, etc… • When the teacher gives the reminder, be sure you are facing the front with your hands at your sides. Please be quiet • Use good manners and courtesy by thanking the person who is taking the time to hold the door open • If you are outside, be sure to walk quietly as if you are in the building • Be respectful of your peers and keep your hands, feet, and body to yourself

Procedures for Working Independently • You must work quietly and not disturb others • You must raise your hand to get permission to speak • You must stay in your seat • You must be responsible and stay on task until your work is finished • When you finish your work, read or finish any other unfinished work

  19. Answering Questions • Raise your hand • Wait to be recognized • Stand and speak in a complete sentence

  20. Cafeteria Procedures Entering the Cafeteria • Remain in a straight line • Use inside voices • Line up in ABC order Seating • Each class has its own table • Sit in assigned area • Remain seated unless acknowledged by the duty teacher Leaving Cafeteria • Students will be dismissed from the tables by the duty teacher according to the table most ready to line up to empty their trays
