Information on the cherry blossom • The cherry blossom is a native tree in Japan it blossoms in spring only for a few days. • There are many varieties of cherry blossoms in Japan such asSomei Yoshino, Yamazakura, Shidarezakura, Ichiyo, Ukon, Jugatsuzakura, Kikuzakura, Shogetsu, Fugenzoand Kanzan.

  3. History of the cherry blossom • The tree originates from Japan. • The Japanese name for the tree is sakura (桜 or 櫻; さくら). • The cherry blossom is celebrated in spring as a festival which goes for 16 days.

  4. Facts about the cherry blossom • The cherry blossom is the unofficial national flower of Japan. • All over Japan the cherry blossom is celebrated every spring by young and old. • The cherry blossom festival started March 27, 1912.
