In February 2010, Indiana launched a comprehensive broadband mapping initiative aimed at improving access to high-speed internet across the state. This project, supported by the IndianaMap, involves mapping broadband availability by service provider, technology used, and advertised speeds through census blocks. Utilizing both "in-hand" data and service provider information, Indiana develops first-draft maps to identify coverage gaps. With a funding commitment of $4.5 million over three years, the initiative aligns with federal standards for high-resolution hydrographic data to enhance the state's data-sharing capabilities.
