Facts About Nepal • Eight of the ten tallest mountains in the world are in Nepal. • It is a land-locked country surrounded by China and India. • 30 million people live in Nepal. • Nepal was a Hindu Kingdom for centuries. Last year the monarchy was abolished and Nepal became a secular Republic.

Facts About Nepal • 7,000-10,000 children, under the age of 5 die every year in western Nepal due to lack of clean drinking water. • Per capita monthly income is $35 or $420 annually. • 55% of all Nepal is illiterate. 72% of females are illiterate. • Persecution is still very prevalent. Two months ago a bomb blast in the church killed three. • 50 years ago, there were only a handful of Christians. Today 1,000,000 follow Christ.

What is the City of Joy? • City of Joy begins in a village where there are people but no infrastructure and no jobs, clean water, education or medical facilities. • Our goal is to turn these villages into thriving, productive and contributing communities. • A full-size community will serve approximately 20,000 people.

Model Community Description • The first “Model Community" will be outside the city limits of Kathmandu – the capital city. • We will build the Model, then use it as a guideline to establish the full-size communities. • The elevation of the Model City of Joy is 4000 ft. • It is 2 hours away from the International Airport in Kathmandu, at the foothills of the Himalayas.

Why Build City of Joy? • We want to transform lives and establish • communities of equal opportunity by: • Creating Jobs through Vocational Training • Providing Clean Drinking Water • Providing Education for Children and Adults • Helping Start Small Businesses • Providing Preventive Health Care • Building Safe Havens for Worship

  15. We will use Nepal’s national resources as much as possible to empower and elevate national workers. • We will invite local volunteers and global experts to teach business principles and ethics. • Implementation will be through Nepalese ownership and requiring direct engagement and accountability from the residents of City of Joy. Who Will Build?

  16. Who Will Build? • This is a “hands-on implementation” project, not one of outside control. • The City is required, by the government of Nepal, to be under local ownership. • Investors can provide management, training, supervision and venture capital.

  17. Proposed Community of “City Of Joy” • Medical Care Facility • Agriculture • 10-13. Farm Pavilions • Community Center • Educational Classrooms • Vocational Classrooms • Visitors’ Center Admin Office/Public Relations Multi-purpose Service Center Kitchen /Dining Hall

  18. Phase I Purchase Land and Construct Wells and Purification Systems (Proposed timeline: 2009-2010) The Model City will serve 6000 people. Proposed area of land to build the Model City of Joy is 15 acres.

Phase II: • Build City of Joy Multi-Purpose Centers • (Proposed timeline: 2009-2011) • The Multi-purpose Centers will provide the following services: • Vocational Training (Carpentry, Tailoring, Poultry, etc.) • Education • Commerce and Trade • Technology • Agriculture • City Services • Clean Water Systems • Solar and other types of energy • Medical Clinic

  20. Empowering the People • The City of Joy citizens become productive. • The people are focused on contributing to their new self-sustaining enterprise. • We have created a culture of productivity with a healthy balance of consumer/production ratio.

  21. Interest Free Loans • After we have trained personnel in various vocations, we will offer interest-free loans that will serve as venture capital. • A payment plan will be attached to each loan to pay off the debt. • Loans recovered then can be used to finance new business ventures.

  22. Together We Can Build a City of Joy Individuals: It only takes $767to transform 1 person’s life for eternity. Groups: It only takes $7670to transform 10 people’s lives for eternity. Businesses: It only takes $30,000to transform 39 people’slives for eternity.

Financials • Our books are kept and audited by an independent CPA Firm. • Financial statements are available to all our partners upon written request. • Build International Ministries is a federally approved 501 (c)(3) non-profit Christian charity. • All donations are tax deductible according to IRS guidelines.
