  1. Year 10 Post-16 Options What will you be doing after year 11?

  2. Why is this an important year at all? • Make or break! • Good GCSEs = more options open to you in the future. • Most jobs require some form of further/higher education.

  3. Who provides you with a reference for college/work?

  4. What are the Options…? Sixth Form College (e.g. Collingwood College) Further Education College EDUCATION Specialist College

  5. College does NOT just mean A Levels! A Levels Entry Level IB NVQs VRQs BTECs

  6. What are the Options…? Self employment Apprenticeship TRAINING/ WORK Training programme that prepares you for work Job with training Work

  7. Advantages/Disadvantages of the different options • It’s really important that you identify the advantages and disadvantages of each option, for you. • Remember: Most careers require qualifications to a level beyond GCSEs. Education is only free up to the age of 19. Often students who go out into the workplace after GCSEs wish they had been encouraged to gain some qualifications first. Raising of the Participation Age!!

  8. What else should you be doing now? • Talk to your parents/teachers/Form Tutor/Mr Woolford about your ideas. (Career ideas must inform your decision) • Get hold of college prospectuses. • Think about what you enjoy – subjects/ work experience/hobbies…there must be something! • Research

  9. Not sure what you want to do? Make sure you ask for help now: Mr Woolford can chat with you about your options during break or at lunch. It’s important that you make an informed decision. If you don’t have any career ideas in mind then keep your options open.
