  1. Year 10 IGCSE Language and GCSE Literature

  2. iGCSE compared to GCSE iGCSE GCSE One 2hour 15 minute exam. 6 questions: 4 based on three texts and 2 separate writing tasks. No speaking and listening (announced beginning of September) 4 controlled assessment essays set by AQA • One two hour exam. Three questions based on two texts. • One speaking and listening assessment • Three coursework essays. Tasks chosen by teachers

Year 10 Overview • Three coursework essays will be completed (opportunities to improve will remain throughout year 11) Coursework • Writing to inform/argue • Writing to describe/entertain • Writing in response to a text • Each essay should be between 500-800 words in length. • This can be typed • Drafted and redrafted

  4. Year 10 Overview • Develop skills covered in the exam • Directed writing • Language analysis • Summarising texts • Mock exam questions will be completed throughout the year to help us track progress. This will be completed during lesson time.

  5. How can you help? • All students will complete three coursework essays this year. Students will have coursework deadlines in planners. • IT4 available to students every Tuesday after October half term for catch up sessions and use of computers to write essays. • SAM Learning.

  7. Overview • x1 controlled assessment to be completed in year 10 on Shakespeare. • Two exams: one on prose, one on poetry. This content will be covered in year 11.

Literature Exam 1 • Section A: Short Stories/An Inspector Calls/The Crucible Read the stories and discuss themes, characters and ideas with them • Section B: Of Mice and Men/TKAM • Read the book and discuss it with them • Discuss the different characters and your opinions of them • Discuss how the characters reflect the American way of life at that time

  9. Literature Exam 2 . Poetry Cluster Know the 15 poems from ONE of the Clusters and talk about: • WHAT the poet is trying to say • HOW the poet gets the message across • Compare the poems: • Choose any 3 poems and play ‘Odd One Out’ to start thinking about similarities and differences between the poems.
