  1. Twilight Book Report Elithamar Rodriguez Lopez English 126 Prof. Evelyn Lugo

  2. Stephenie Meyer • Stephenie Meyer graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in English. She lives with her husband and three young sons in Phoenix, Arizona. After the publication of her first novel, Twilight, booksellers chose Stephenie Meyer as one of the "most promising new authors of 2005"

  3. Characters • Bella Swan: is a clumsy, accident-prone teenage girl who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to Forks, Washington, to live with her father, Charlie. Though many boys are attracted to her when she arrives, she falls in love with Edward Cullen, a mysterious boy she discovers to be a vampire.

  4. Characters • Edward Cullen: was born on June 20, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, and is frozen in his 17-year-old body. While dying of the Spanish influenza, he was changed into a vampire by Dr. Carlisle Cullen after Edward's mother, Elizabeth, begged him to save Edward as her dying wish. Edward only drinks animal blood and has the special ability to read minds, with the exception of Bella Swan's. He falls in love with Bella soon after she arrives in Forks.

  5. Charcaters • Jacob Black is Bella's best friend. He is a Quileute Native American, being a forgotten childhood friend of Bella's. In an attempt to learn more about Cullens, Bella flirts with Jacob, and he tells her tribe legends about them being "the cold ones", or vampires.

  6. Characters • Cullen Family • Carlisle Cullen: Edwards Father and Doctor. • Esme Cullen: Edwards Mother. • Rosalie Hale is the adopted daughter of Esme and Carlisle. • Emmett Cullen: is Rosalie's husband, Carlisle and Esme's adopted son.

  7. Characters • Alice Cullen: is the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme, adoptive sister of Edward, Rosalie, and Emmett, and wife of Jasper. • Jasper Hale: In Twilight, Jasper accompanies Alice and Bella when they are hiding from James. He uses his ability to calm Bella when she is stressed or afraid.

  8. Characters • James: The major antagonist of the novel, he’s "tracker" vampire who hunts human beings or, in some cases, animals, for sport. Fellow coven member Laurent says that James is unusually gifted at what he does and always gets what he wants. • Victoria: She’s a red-haired, cat-like vampire. She plays a small role in the first book assisting James, her lover and coven leader, in hunting Bella Swan.

  9. The Novel • Twilight is a young adult vampire-romance novel written by author Stephenie Meyer. It was originally published in hardcover in 2005. It is the first book of the Twilight series, and introduces seventeen-year-old Isabella "Bella" Swan who moves from Phoenix, Arizona, to Forks, Washington, and finds her life in danger when she falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. The novel is followed by New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn.

  10. Analisys • The vocabulary used in the novel and very proper but actually very easy to understand, we can figure the meaning by context. This is very useful for teenagers and for people who don’t have a very full vocabulary. • The story takes place in a small town called Forks, Washington. This is a very rainy, cold and cloudy town.

  11. Analisys • The time line where the story takes place is very modern. Because they mention new models of cars, computers and cellphones. • I really found interesting that the story was written in first person because that made me visualize this as I was the caaracter, and gave me more opportunity to actually feel what was going on. The author gave a lot of little details with words that didn’t need to have explanation so the reader could understand what she meant.

  12. Process of the making • The author actually gain the idea of the novel from a dream she had: “I think you only get one dream like that in a lifetime, and it was all I needed. Once I unlocked the door, there were a lot of stories waiting to get out. Apparently, there are enough people in my head to supply me for a while.”

  13. Process of the making • The author didn’t make a huge research about vampires just some details that she needed so Bella could make her research but actually the author tried to make her own world of vampires that broke the schema of vampires.

  14. Plot of the Book • Isabella "Bella" Swan moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie, while her mother, Renée, travels with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, a minor league baseball player. Bella attracts much attention at her new school and is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her dismay, several boys compete for shy Bella's attention.

  15. Plot of the Book • When Bella is seated next to Edward Cullen in class on her first day of school, Edward seems utterly repulsed by her. He disappears for a few days, but warms up to Bella upon his return; their newfound relationship reaches a climax when Bella is nearly run over by a fellow classmate's van in the school parking lot. Seemingly defying the laws of physics, Edward saves her life when he instantaneously appears next to her and stops the van with his bare hands.

  16. Plot of the Book • Bella becomes hellbent on figuring out how Edward saved her life, and constantly pesters him with questions. After tricking a family friend, Jacob Black, into telling her local tribal legends, Bella concludes that Edward and his family are vampires who drink animal blood rather than human. Edward confesses that he initially avoided Bella because the scent of her blood was so desirable to him. Over time, Edward and Bella fall in love.

  17. Plot of the Book • Their relationship is thrown into chaos when another vampire coven sweeps into Forks. James, a tracker vampire who is intrigued by the Cullens' relationship with a human, wants to hunt Bella for sport. The Cullens attempt to distract the tracker by splitting up Bella and Edward, and Bella is sent to hide in a hotel in Phoenix. There, Bella receives a phone call from James, who claims he is holding her mother captive. When Bella surrenders herself, James attacks her, but Edward, along with the other Cullens, rescues Bella and destroys James.

  18. Plot of the Book • Once they realize that James has bitten Bella's hand, Edward sucks the venom from her system before it can spread and transform her into a vampire, and she is then sent to a hospital. Upon returning to Forks, Bella and Edward attend their school prom and Bella expresses her desire to become a vampire, which Edward refuses.

  19. Cover of the Book • Stephenie Meyer has stated that the apple on the cover represents the forbidden fruit from the book of Genesis. It symbolizes Bella and Edward's love, which is forbidden, similar to the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, as is implied by the quote from Genesis 2:17 that is quoted at the beginning of the book. It also represents Bella's knowledge of what good and evil are, and the choice that she has in partaking of the "forbidden fruit", Edward, or choosing not to see him.
