I-ELDAIowa English Language Development Assessment • Annual spring ELL assessment of four modalities: reading, writing, listening, and speaking • Analyzed for growth in all four areas • Provides detailed information in student areas of strength/weakness • Proficiency View – How are my students performing overall? • Standards View – What areas do I need to address more in my teaching? • Item Analysis – What specific question types are causing students difficulties?

Data Analysis Action Plan • Develop better strategies for math teachers working with ELLs • GWAEA ELL math training in Dec. • ICLC: four math teachers of ELL attended and shared best practices with building • Academic Vocabulary • ELL-wide adoption of Kate Kinsella method • Professional development for all teachers to support academic vocabulary in January

  10. Data Analysis Action Plan • Summer Initiatives • Purpose: Summer break challenging for ELLs due to lack of rich English interaction Action: • Jump Start to Kindergarten • Summer School for K-8 • High School Summer School: average reading MAP gain of 13 point increase from spring to fall

Program Evaluation Results • ELL Self-Study Guide • 75% of the student who are receiving ELL services will meet growth targets on spring NWEA MAP assessment. • Increase the number of teachers who report implementing specific best practice strategies. • 100% of the elementary classroom teachers and secondary ELL teachers will complete a parent communication rubric.
