  2. What is Green-to-Gold • The Green to Gold program affords enlisted Soldiers who demonstrate officer potential an avenue to transition or remain on active duty to attend college and commission as an Army officer through ROTC.

  3. Available Options • Active Duty Option (ADO) (2 year program) • Scholarship (2, 3, 4 year program) • Hip Pocket Scholarship (2, 3, 4 year program) • Non-scholarship Option (2 year program)

  4. 2-yr Active Duty Option • Centralized Selection Board • Remain on active status – maintaining pay, benefits, and allowances • Can use GI bill, no TA authorized • Assigned to Student Detachment at Fort Jackson, SC • Must have 4 semesters/6 quarters remaining toward first Bachelor’s or Master’sdegree • Competitive: currently limited to 200 (400) slots per year

  5. Scholarship • Centralized Selection Board • Soldier is discharged from the Army – forfeits all pay, benefits and allowances • Tuition OR Room and Board • Can use GI Bill/grants/other scholarships

  6. Hip-Pocket Scholarships • No centralized scholarship board • Division/Corps CGs are allotted 1 to 5 scholarships annually • Compete against other Soldiers from the local command • Division CG holds local board to develop OML (in most cases) • All eligibility criteria apply • On-line application to include the CG nomination memo must be completed and uploaded no later than 1 APR.

  7. 2-yr Non-Scholarship • Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) • Can use GI Bill • Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship, if under 31 years of age at commission • Non-scholarship is a contract between the applicant and the school

  8. Eligibility • Age • Scholarship < 31 by 31 Dec of the year of commissioning (No Waivers) • ADO/Nonscholarship < 30 years old at the projected time of commission (Waivers are authorized) • GT Score: 110 (No Waivers, retest OK) • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 (Waivers are authorized) • Pass APFT <6 Months of Application (No Waivers) • Meet height/ weight standards (No Waivers) • Chain of Command favorable recommendations (No Waivers) • US Citizen (No Waivers) • Not a conscientious objector (No Waivers) • Eligible to re-enlist code (No Waivers)

Eligibility (Cont.) • Letters of Acceptance (No Waivers/Post Board) • College/University • Professor of Military Science (PMS/PostBoard) • Favorable Clearance Investigation approved or initiated (No Waivers) • SAT/ ACT – minimum 1000/19 (Waivers authorized) • Cannot have been convicted of a Domestic Violence Crime (Lautenberg Amendment) (No Waivers) • No arrests, indictments, or convictions by a civil court or military law for other than minor traffic violations (Waiverable) • Minimum of 2 years Active Duty (Waiverable) • Must meet Training Service Obligation (Waiverable) • Pass DODMERB medical exam IAW AR 40-501

  10. Eligibility (Cont.) • With Dependents • No more than three to include spouse (Waiverable) • Sole parent with custody (Waiverable) • Spouse in Armed Forces/Dual Military with dependent under the age of 18 (Waiverable) • Responsible for child support (Waiverable)

Waivers vs. No-Waivers • Waivers: • ADO/Nonscholarship greater than 30 years old at the projected time of commission • Cumulative GPA less than 2.5 • SAT/ACT less than 1000/19 • Arrests, indictments, or convictions by a civil court or military law for other than minor traffic violations • Less than 2 Years Active Duty • Meets Training Service Obligation • More than 3 dependents • Sole parent custody • Dual military with dependent • Responsible for child support • No-Waivers: • Scholarship: greater than 31 years old by 31 DEC of the year of commissioning • GT Score less than110 • APFT within 6 months of application • Fail height/weight Standards • Chain of Command non-favorable recommendations • Not a US Citizen • A conscientious objector • Ineligible to re-enlist code • Does not have letter of acceptance from PMS • Security Clearance dis-approved • Domestic Violence Conviction (Lautenberg Amendment)

  12. Responsibilities • ROTC Counterpart Battalion • Advertise and Coordinate at the installation • Counsel on qualification • Assist with Green-to-Gold application • Checks application packet • ROTC Battalion of Choice • Communicate with Counterpart Battalion to validate eligibility of Soldiers • Assist in Academic requirements, if needed • Issues letter of acceptance and request waiver(s), if needed
