  1. Defense Attorney Breanna Nichols 1-22-13 Hour: 4 Career/Tech

  2. Introduction “He is NOT guilty!” This is what I should be preparing to say in court when I defend my client in the court house. I began getting interested in law and being a defense attorney when my parents and family members told me I would be good at it; and I agree with them. I like to argue a lot and being a defense attorney would give me the option to use my arguing skills and put them to good use. Also, watching TV shows and movies helped get me interested in defending people in court. I want to be a great defense attorney and make big bucks and win the cases! I will be researching the areas of: responsibilities, working conditions, the education required, the job outlook, and of course, the earnings I would get!

  3. Nature of Work • Advise and represent clients in courts, before government agencies, or in private legal matters • Conduct research and analysis of legal problems • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses • Present facts in writing or verbally to their clients or others and argue on their behalf • Prepare and file legal documents, such as lawsuits, appeals, wills, contracts, and deeds

  4. Working Conditions • Work indoors • Mental work • Full time and long hours. • Work in law offices

  5. Training, Qualifications, Advancement • Doctorate degree required(4 years undergraduate study plus 3 years of law school) • UCLA and Harvard Law School • Classes to take in high-school: • Business law • Public speaking • Practical law • Law enforcement

  6. Job Outlook/Employment • Employment rate: around 728,200 • In next 7 years, employment expected to rise up to 10% • Competition tough and strong • Defense attorney in California

  7. Earnings • My life-style goals: to live in California, to live in a beach house, preferably make over $100,000 annually • Average annual salary is $112,760 • $112,760 fits my life-style goal=  • My first purchase= expensive car I really want or big house on the beach

  8. Related Occupation • Back-up career: nurse-anesthetist/registered nurse • Responsibilities: record patients’ information, give medication, operate equipment, make observations • Work environment: indoors and mostly physical work • Associate’s degree required • Job outlook: high demand • $64,690 annual income

  9. Summary Overall, this seems like a pretty good career to get into. Besides the long research and the 7 years of required college, It has extremely good pay and includes some of the things I am best at, meaning arguing. The task I would enjoy most about this career, is the part where I would get to stand up and argue a case, and try my best to stress my point and win the case! This career would provide me with great income to support me and my life-style goals and hopefully a family too! I learned that being in this career requires long hours of work, a ton of schooling, and obviously the ability to win a case by defending the accused criminal!
