  2. Welcome to Year 3 Aim of our chat We will talk about the following: • Spelling • Reading • English • Maths • Curriculum • Sets, groupings and intervention • An example timetable - Autumn 2016 • E-Safety • Reminders • Questions?

  3. English • Units of work (fiction, non-fiction and poetry) • Emphasis on extended writing • Regular handwriting (cursive script) • Speaking and listening • SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) • Reading

  4. Spelling • New Curriculum focus on SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) • Follow a spelling programme • Three spelling lessons a week • Editing, dictionary work • Marking code -sp. • Not weekly lists home

  5. Reading • Banding • Personal selection including texts from home – variety of genres (FREE FRIDAY). • Reading records (at least 3 signatures from home per week) • Guided reading • Reading with adults in school (parent helpers welcome please!!)

Maths • New Curriculum – focus on fluency of Number, Problem Solving and Reasoning Skills. • Maths Investigations • Oral and mental starters • Mental maths tests and times tables • Guided groups • Calculation methods • Real life examples at home • Sumdog • www.histonimpington-jun.cambs.sch.uk/ online games

International Primary Curriculum (IPC) • Subject links – Science, Geography, Art, DT, History, Music • Themes: Brainwave, Active Planet, Anglo Saxons, Bright Sparks, Rainforest, Living Together (local History study), Shaping Up. • Subjects outside IPC – RE, PE, PSHE, French, recorders, Computing

  8. Sets, groupings and intervention • Ability groupings in all classes • Year 3 intervention groups to help with needs of children

E-Safety in Year 3 • PROGRAMME OVERVIEW • Protect personal information. • Know what online services are age appropriate for me. • To know how to stay safe using popular online services. • Use safety features of web sites and know how to report problems. • Downloading files and games safely. • Good choices about the amount of time I spend online. • Posting positive comments online. • Choose secure passwords. • Protect personal information.
