  1. Why Do Men Obey Error? If Truth Exists – So Does Error and If Error Exists – So Does Truth

  2. Error is not as Good as Truth • Jesus said – …Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice (Jn. 18:37). • Pilate said – What is truth? (v. 38) • He knew the truth – I find no fault in Him at all (v. 39) • He washed his hands before the multitude saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it (Mt. 27:24).

  3. Truth is Not Whatever I Believe • Jesus said – And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free(Jn. 8:32) • He defined it – Sanctify them by Your truth, Your word is truth (Jn. 17:17)

  4. Why Do Many Not Believe Truth? • Loyalty To Men • “He is such a good person” • The nature of seed is not changed by the character of one who sows it! • Drunkard sows good seed – will produce • Christian sows rotten seed – will not produce

  5. Bad Men may Teach Truth • Jesus said: The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do (Mt. 23:2,3). • Hypocrisy does not change the truth (may make it harder to believe)!

  6. Good Men May Teach Error • Apollos was “an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures…” (Acts 18:25)…but he was wrong about baptism and needed further teaching • Parents may be good – but are not the standard (Mt. 10:37) • Preachers may be good – but are not the standard (1 Jn. 4:1)

  7. The Sectarian Spirit • “If you were born to ____ parents, you will be a ____.” • If you were born to atheist parents, would there be no God? • “What does the Church of Christ teach?” • Which one? Is that the standard?

  8. Why do many not believe Truth? • A Partial View • Some take the part they like or that their church believes but not believe other parts • Cp. God’s book of nature – “if I get a good rain, I will have a good corn crop” – rain only? • “If I believe, I will be saved” – believe only?

  9. Who Cut Off Whose Ear? • Mt. 26: 51,52- one - sword - servant - ear • Mk. 14:47 - one - sword - servant - ear • Lk. 22:50,51-one-servant-right ear-healed • Jn. 18:10,11- Peter-sword-Malchus- r. ear • Sum: Peter-sword-Malchus-r. ear - healed

  10. The Great Commission • Mt. 28:18-20 - make disciples baptizing • Mk. 16:15,16-preach - gospel - bel.- bap.- saved • Lk. 24:46,47 - preach - repentance – remission • Sum: teach - gospel - bel. - rep. - bap. – saved • Faith Only or Baptism Only – is a partial view just as Rain only!

  11. Conclusion • Men obey error instead of truth when they obey something other than God’s word, or only part of it. The sum of God’s word is truth (Ps. 119:160 ASV). • Our loyalty must be to the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
