  1. A Model-Driven and Knowledge-Based Methodology for Product Concept Development and Optimisation Project Aim: To develop a model driven and reasoning methodology to facilitate product concept development based on the industrial standard and domain knowledge • Objectives: • Propose a standard-based modelling framework for concept development, with combination of domain-oriented ontological specification • Propose a case-based knowledge management mechanism to gather, store and share conceptual design knowledge in different views • Develop an agent-based reasoning system to facilitate concept exploration, based on the logical modelling framework and knowledge management mechanism • Propose a TRIZ based methodology to identify and resolve functional conflicts and coupling issues underlying promising concepts to improve the product quality at this early design stage • Develop a set of software tools, implement and validate them by an industrial application • Industrial Benefits: • Improving efficiency and keep consistency of the concept development process by the industrial standard-based, systematic modelling framework • Reduce development cost of random searching by computer-aided and reasoning concept exploration • Preserve and reuse previous design knowledge • Improve product quality at the beginning of the development process Researcher: Genyuan Fei (g.fei@gre.ac.uk) Supervisor: Prof. James Gao ( j.gao@gre.ac.uk)
