  2. INPUT/PRODUCTS • The outer layer is made of one of three materials: Surlyn, Balata, and Elastomer.Surlyn is the basic outer covering for most golf balls. This layer is the cheapest, it is hard and durable. Balata is a softer material that produces more spin and more feel. Elastomer is an very expensive material that combines the best of both worlds.

  3. INPUT/PRODUCTS CONTINUED • The Inner layer of a golf ball is made up of a specialized rubber core. The outer covering is just a layer of polyurethane applied to reduce friction and weathering. • There are also different styles of text and lettering used to id the different types of balls. To apply this text they use an industrial ink.

Process • Step 1: Take the rubber used in the core and prepare it by mixing it with chemicals to make the rubber pliable. • Step 2: This rubber is inserted into a role press and flattened into a sheet. • Step 3: The sheets are cut and rolled then inserted into an intruder which pushes the rubber through an die into marshmallow shapes called slugs.

  6. PROCESS • Step 4: The slugs are inserted into a compression mold machine. • Step 5: A worker places the slugs into the mold and engages the machine. This machine both forms and solidifies the rubber with heat. • Step 6:A worker removes the newly formed slugs by placing a Plexiglas slot then the balls are picked up by a air hose.

  7. Process • Step 7: The new cores are taken to another mold. This mold inserts a new plastic witch is one of the three outer covers. • Step 8: These newly coated golf balls are removed from this machine, trimmed and transported through a bin to a clamp that hold it in place. • Step 9: this machine is a stamping machine. It places a name of the manufacture and style of the ball.

  8. PROCESS • Step 10: The balls go to a machine that applies a layer of polyurethane to the ball ensuring that they are less prone to wear and tear. • Step 11: The finished products are sent to the packaging center for packaging.

  9. Output • The Finished product is a finely manufactured golf ball ready to aid in the improvement of the average golfers game.

  10. Feedback • The only feedback for this product would be the amount of the golf balls sold. • You could also receive it through letters written to the manufacturer in response to how the consumer liked the product.
