  1. KS2 SATs 9th– 12th May 2016

  2. What are SATs? • Statutory Assessment Tests • Formal Timed Examinations • Provide attainment outcomes for most Y6 pupils in the country • Tests are now reflecting the new National Curriculum and are intended to be more rigorous

  3. Marking • SATs papers are marked externally • SATs results for Maths and Reading and SPaG will be used to inform national and local data • Teacher Assessments will also be reported to you and high schools

  4. What about the results? • As of this year, children will not receive levels • Each pupil registered for the tests will receive: • a raw score (number of raw marks awarded) • a scaled score • confirmation of whether or not they attained the national standard

  5. What do they consist of? No longer a Level 6 test. Questions within the test are designed to test all abilities • English reading: reading booklet and associated answer booklet (1hour) • English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 1: short answer questions (45 mins) • English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 2: spelling (approx 15 mins)

  6. What do they consist of? MATHEMATICS • Mathematics Paper 1: Arithmetic (30mins) • Mathematics Paper 2: Reasoning (45mins) • Mathematics Paper 3: Reasoning (45mins)

  8. Preparing your child(In School) • Revision of key skills • Practice of exam style questions in timed conditions • Booster Classes and 1:1 Sessions

  9. During SATs week • Small groups • Support of adults • Any equipment needed • Breakfast Club • Relaxing afternoons!

  10. Access Arrangements • Aware of different needs of children • Support from Local Authority in how to best administer tests for each child • Informed how your child will be supported

  11. Preparing at Home • Revision Books • Supporting with Homework • Revision Websites • Opportunities for using writing and mental maths skills e.g. when shopping, cooking • Regular Reading

  12. During SATs Week • Sensible bedtimes • ‘Brain Food’ • Time to relax • Quick / short bursts of revision • Prompt arrival
