  3. NBCC principles • Health Care coverage must be guaranteed for everyone • The coverage package must provide the same comprehensive benefits to everyone • Must meet the public’s expectations • Health care is fundamental to maintaining a productive society

  4. NBCC Principles • The health care system must be easy to navigate for patients and providers • The health care system should be easy to administer • All individuals must financially contribute to the system, based on ability • 1 cent, 1 dollar, 10 dollars, 100 dollars

  5. NBCC principles & core values • Access • To all the care you need, when you need it • More not always better • Information • Complete and correct ex: treatments, tests, etc • Medical records-understandable • Choice • About your doctors and your treatment (evidence based)

  6. Principles & core values • Respect • From everyone in the health care system • Accountability • There is a way to fix problems • Ex: Intermountain Health Systems in Utah • Improvement • In the system so Breast Cancer care continues to get better

  8. Us vs. oecd countries 2007 • US spends more than any other country in the world • US 16% • France 11% • Canada 10.1% • Among lowest life expectancy at birth • Midrange 65 • Among the highest infant mortality and medical error rates

  9. How can we assure this happens? • We need political will to make it happen • Politicians that care about their constituents rather than 2010 • NBCC has the ability to help grow that will • YOU can too! • We will not end Breast Cancer without it
