  2. “ It’s helpful to have general guidelines rather than RIGID rules!” • Always remember to work your way from outside to in. • Flatware is arranged in order of use, starting at the outside and working toward the plate. • Forks & Napkin are always placed to the left of the plate • Spoons & Knives are always placed to the right of the plate • Water glass is placed at tip of knife • Centrepiece should be low enough that you can see your guests

  3. Since we don’t always have dinner with the Queen, here is what a basic table setting at your house may look like. • Take note of the placement of each piece

  4. 1. Eat and drink at the same time? DON’T 2. Chew with your mouth open? DON’T 3. Put elbows on the table? DON’T 4. Wipe your mouth with the corners of your napkin? DO!

  5. 5. Sit up straight while eating? DO 6. Eat and talk simultaneously? DON’T 7. Place your Silverware/Flatware on table after use. DON’T 8. Place your napkin in your lap before eating. DO 9. Escort a girl to her seat? DO 10. Comb your hair at the table DON’T

  8. You may need to go to a fancier dinner • Not knowing what to do can make people nervous • Have an enjoyable eating experience • Provide comfort to yourself and those dining with you. • When in doubt, always follow the lead of your host/ hostess!

  9. Get into a Group of 4. • You will create a 3 minute skit in which you will demonstrate 3 – 4 DO’s and DON’Ts about table manners and mealtime etiquette. • You have 5 minutes to create your skit and each group will present.
