A dinner suit or dinner jacket is really only the British version of the ever-suave tuxedo. Just like a tuxedo, a dinner suit is for those special evenings and social events when you need to look the part. It’s main distinguishing feature is glossy satin or silk coverings or trims on the jacket’s lapels and buttons. A shawl-style lapel is usually a feature of dinner suits and jackets. About the only difference between a dinner jacket and tuxedo, is that a dinner jacket's don’t have to match in colour, and can contrast.
