Local action – Global Impact The Project “Democratization of Dniester River Basin Governance" (2008-2010) is supported by Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is realising by Eco-TIRAS in partnership with WECF - Women of Europe for Common Future, and has a goal to improve the management of 4 Dniester tributaries (Bucovat, Moldova, NGO-coordinators “XXI Century”; “Terra-1530”). Funding: The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Program: MATRA Period: 2008 - 2010 Project management: “EcoTiras” and “Terra-1530” Project partners: “Terra-HS”; Association for Youth Promotion “XXI Century”; Rural NGO’s Alliance, WECF. Background … In 2003 year when it was declared an exceptional situation in Vorniceni village, Moldova, because at the “Ion Inculet” lyceum were identified 75 cases of Hepatitis A. The first step was to create The Moldovan Network of Rural Volunteering Centers for Water (MNRVCW). The MNRVCW will make an important contribution to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, to all of which water plays a crucial role. The MNRVCW Mission aims at expanding its activities including other villages, countries on local, regional, national, European and International level. Therefore, TERRA-1530 is asking you to spread the word that we are looking for partners in our efforts to expand our activities, including volunteer exchange. Volunteers of the NGO “Terra-1530” planting trees on the banks of the Bucovat stream https://www.facebook.com/petru.botnaru.7 Activities: • A multi stakeholder process led to the implementation of 4 demonstration projects in 4 localities along the Bucovati tributary: Dolna, Micleuseni, Lozova and Vorniceni, in close cooperation with the local population, local authorities and youth. • 16,000 seedlings have been planted along 32 km of the Bucovati stream by over 100 volunteers. • The Strategy for sustainable development of the Bucovat Stream for 2010-2020 has been approved by the local authorities. • Exchange of experience with project partners from Berejani, Ukraine took place. Awareness raising and involvement of youth was an important part of the project. Sustainability is guaranteed by the involvement of the local people and follow up projects by the authorities taking care of the plantations.
