    3. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED WITH THE NEW FARMING SYSTEM USING STANDARD HARVESTER FRONTS Cane was literally being torn from the ground Harvester was difficult to drive straight over the row The standard harvester fronts were being spread apart from the pressure of wide rows Heavier loads were encountered on the drive train More soil was placed in the bin Poor ratooning was the result

    4. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Poor ratoons Notice only one of the dual rows left in this section of the paddock

    8. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS AIMS OF THE PROJECT To design the fronts to fit wider rows To convert to new BSES design fronts To make it adjustable

    9. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Trials done in 2005 with standard fronts

    10. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Trails done in 2006 with new fronts

    11. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS Improved feeding of cane Easy movement of fronts by ram operation Publications in Australian Canegrower and BSES Bulletin Adjustable ram system has been purchased by others Will make it easy for farmers to adopt different row spacing

    12. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Design of adjustable ram attachment

    13. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS These photos show the difference between 1.83m dual rows 1.5m single rows

    14. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Adjustable Ram

    15. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS BSES design fronts

    16. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Old fronts New fronts

    17. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS Cutting lodged 1.83m rows at 180 T/P/H

    18. ADJUSTABLE HARVESTER FRONTS After 2 seasons this conversion has proved its worth & is robust & easy to operate. Advance Burdekin Collective research Inc worked with Steve Lorn from EHS Manufacturing who designed & manufactured the BSES fronts & the adjustable ram system. We also acknowledge the efforts of Trevor Pardon who owned the converted harvester. Funding provided by SRDC has helped this project come to reality.
