  1. Mysteries of Light

  2. Mysteries of Light The Baptism of Jesus The Baptism in the Jordan is first of all a mystery of light. Here, as Christ descends into the waters, the innocent one who became “sin” for our sake, the heavens open wide and the voice of the Father declares him the beloved Son, while the Spirit descends on him to invest him with the mission which he is to carry.

  3. Mysteries of Light The Baptism of Jesus “Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptised by him…After Jesus was baptised, he came up out of the water, and the heavens opened up for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending upon him like a dove. A voice came down from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

  5. Mysteries of Light The Baptism of Jesus Lord God, at the Baptism of Jesus you revealed yourself as the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As people who have been created in your image and likeness, and baptised in your name, enable us to reveal to all the favours you bestow upon humanity. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  6. Mysteries of Light Jesus self-revelation at the miracle in cana Another mystery of light is the first of the signs, given at Cana, when Christ changes water into wine and opens the hearts of the disciples to faith, thanks to the intervention of Mary, the first among believers.

  7. Mysteries of Light Jesus self-revelation at the miracle in cana “On the third day, there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine”. Jesus replied, “Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”…And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, and inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.” Jesus did this as the first of his signs and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe him.

  9. Mysteries of Light Jesus self-revelation at the miracle in cana Lord Jesus, as we enter into this mystery may we see your glory with the eyes of faith that we may believe and live as your disciples in the modern world. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  10. Mysteries of Light Jesus preaches the good news of Conversion, repentance and forgiveness Another mystery of light is the preaching by which Jesus proclaims the coming of the Kingdom of God, calls to conversion and forgives the sins of all who draw near to him in humble trust: the inauguration of that ministry of mercy which he continues to exercise until the end of the world, particularly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation which he has entrusted to his Church.

  11. Mysteries of Light Jesus preaches the good news of Conversion, repentance and forgiveness Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe the good news.”

  12. Mysteries of Light Jesus preaches the good news of Conversion, repentance and forgiveness

  13. Mysteries of Light Jesus preaches the good news of Conversion, repentance and forgiveness Lord Jesus, in you the Kingdom of God was manifest. You called all people to repentance and belief. May we receive your mercy once more by turning away from sin and being faithful to the Good News. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  14. Mysteries of Light The transfiguration of Jesus The mystery of light par excellence is the Transfiguration, traditionally believed to have taken place on Mount Tabor. The glory of the Godhead shines forth from the face of Christ as the Father commands the astonished Apostles, “listen to him” and to prepare to experience with him the agony of the Passion, so as to come with him to the joy of the Resurrection and a life transfigured by the Holy Spirit.”

  15. Mysteries of Light The Transfiguration of Jesus Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was in prayer, his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. Two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, appearing in glory and speaking of the exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.... While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him."

  16. Mysteries of Light The Transfiguration of Jesus

  17. Mysteries of Light The Transfiguration of Jesus Lord Jesus, your transfiguration on Mount Tabor revealed, in a yet mysterious way, the passion, death and resurrection that lay before you. We echo the words of St. Peter, as we contemplate this mystery, “Master, it is wonderful for us to be here.” May we always experience the wonder of being in your presence as you once more reveal your glory to us. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  18. Mysteries of Light The Institution of the Eucharist A final mystery of light is the institution of the Eucharist, in which Christ offers his body and blood as food under the signs of bread and wine, and testifies "to the end" his love for humanity (John 13:1), for whose salvation he will offer himself in sacrifice.

  19. Mysteries of Light The Institution of the Eucharist This is the tradition of the Lord thatI received and that in my turn I have handed on to you; the Lord Jesus, on the night that he was delivered up, took bread, and, after giving thanks, broke it saying, “This is my body which is broken for you; do this in memory of me.” In the same manner, taking the cup after the supper, he said, “This cup is the new Covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do it in memory of me.”

  20. Mysteries of Light The Institution of the Eucharist

  21. Mysteries of Light The Institution of the Eucharist Lord Jesus, in the Eucharist you offer your body and blood and testify to the end your love for humanity. May we always worthily celebrate that same sacrifice, the source and summit of our daily lives, that, nourished by these holy gifts, we may reveal your light and life to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

  22. Mysteries of Light Hail, Holy Queen
