  2. "A new technology that will allow you to use your body as a network transmitter is being developed in Japan.. "

  3. Introduction • RED TACTON meaning: tacton: touch-act-on (action triggered by touching) red: symbol of warmth and love conveying the cordiality of interpersonal communications • Red Tacton works on HAN. (Human area networking) • Communication between electronic wearable devices on human body and outside environment critical-so human area networking essential • Red Tacton uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. • Red Tacton uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body for the data transfer. • Technically its completely distinct to wireless and infrared. • Communication possible through any part of the body.

  4. Working of Red Tacton • Red Tacton works upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field. • 10 mbps transmission speed is achieved between any 2 points on the transmission path in the body. • Major components of device are a red tacton transmitter and a receiver( electro-optic crystal and laser)

  6. WORKING PROCEDURE

  7. Intra body communication methods • There are 2 basic methods: • Electric current method • Electric field method( Red Tacton)

  8. Need of Supersensitive Sensors • The naturally occurring electric field induced on the surface of the human body dissipates into the earth. Therefore, this electric field is exceptionally faint and unstable. • Photonic electric field sensors are developed. • It is a sensor that bounces a laser beam off of a crystal (electro-optic crystal) and measures the reflected beam. Oscillations in the electric field surrounding the crystal affect the crystal, which changes the reflected light's polarization.

  9. Opto-electronic sensors should have three features: • Should measure electric field from a device without contacting it. • Ultrawide band measurement should be possible • Should support one point measurement independent of ground

  10. HAN • In addition to the WANs (Internet) and LANs, there are applications best served by Human Area Networks (HANs) as well.

  12. Three Functional Features

  13. Touch • Many human movements like touching, gripping, walking, stepping etc. can lock or unlock equipments or start or stop an equipment or can result in data transfer • Communication starts when any body part or embedded system gets in contact through various physical contacts according to human natural movements .

  14. Broadband and interactive • Bandwidth is not at all affected with the variations in the number of users and also not affected with the use of duplex operation. • Because the transmission path is surface of the body, the speed is not compensated in congested areas.

  15. Any media • In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics may also be used in combination.

  16. Human Safety • Safety is obviously the primary concern before the implementation of this technique. • The transmitting and receiving electrodes of the Red Tacton transceiver are completely covered with insulating film. • So the body of the person acting as the transmission medium is completely insulated. • When communication occurs, displacement current is generated by the electrons in the body because the body is subjected to minute electrical fields.

  17. Applications An Alarm sounds automatically to avoid accidental medicine ingestion Touch advertising and receive information

  18. Applications in Personalization JUST TOUCHING A PHONE MAKES IT YOUR OWN JUST SITTING IN THE SEAT TRIGGERS THE CAR TO LOAD ALL ITS PRESETS, JUST THE WAY YOU LIKE

  19. Intuitive Operations Touch printer to print Instantaneous private network via personal handshake

  20. Security Applications User verification and unlocking with just a touch

  21. PROTOTYPES security devices whose development has been completed

  22. Transmission devices whose development in process

  23. Conclusion • Red Tacton is an exciting new technology for Human Area Networking. • For long term plans the size of the transceiver should be reduced. • It supports personal devices like PDA’s and notebooks.
