  2. Morgan State University History and Background • Morgan State University was formerly known as Centenary Biblical Institute, and was founded in 1867. In 1890 became Morgan College, and in 1939, Morgan College officially became a state institution and was named Morgan State College. In 1975, Morgan was granted University status by the Maryland State Legislature. • MSU is an historically Black institution with the unique designation as Maryland’s public urban university. As such, Morgan serves an ethnically diverse student body, among which are some of Maryland’s best and brightest students, as well as representative numbers of high school students from urban communities who would not otherwise pursue a baccalaureate degree.

Morgan State University • Under the guidance of the University’s President, Dr. Earl Richardson, Morgan is the fastest growing institution in Maryland. • During the past ten years, undergraduate enrollment has grown by 57 percent. In 1995, Morgan doubled it’s enrollment from the mid 1980’s. • Currently, Morgan has an overall enrollment of nearly 7,000 students, representing all fifty states and numerous foreign countries.
