  2. Current NGAC Appointments • Initial NGAC appointments & Charter – January 2008 • Interagency panel reviewed nominations and provided recommendations to DOI Secretary. Appointments made by Secretary of the Interior • Appointments under current Charter: • Initial appointments for two and three year terms • All subsequent appointments for two years • Result – staggered two-year terms, with half of committee turning over each year • Current Committee Composition: • 14 governmental members (5 State, 3 County, 3 Local/Regional, 2 Federal, 1 Tribal) • 14 non-governmental members (10 Private Sector, 2 Non-Profit, 2 Academic)

  3. 2009 Nominations/Appointments • Call for Nominations issued by DOI Secretary Salazar on July 6, 2009 • Distributed widely: • DOI Press Release/Federal Register notice • DOI/USGS/FGDC mail list distribution • Partner distribution – ASPRS, MAPPS, GITA, NSGIC, etc. • Nominations due August 21 • Results: • Over 50 nominations received • High quality nominations • Many private sector, academic, State gov. nominations

Review/Appointment Process • NGAC Charter: “The Committee will be comprised of up to 30 representatives, who will be selected to generally achieve a balanced representation of the viewpoints of the various stakeholders involved in national geospatial activities and the development of the NSDI. Selection of Committee members will include consideration of geographic balance.” • Nominations will be evaluated by interagency panel using common criteria • Recommendations will be provided to DOI Secretary • DOI Secretary will make final appointment decisions • NGAC Charter must be updated every 2 years – current charter will be updated by January 2010

Draft Review Criteria *Based on 2007 Review Criteria General Criteria: Committee membership should reflect a balanced representation of the viewpoints of the diverse interests involved in national geospatial activities and the development of the NSDI Committee membership should reflect geographic balance and experience with multiple sectors of the geospatial community Specific Criteria: Members should effectively represent a constituency or community of interest Members should have a record of significant accomplishment and be recognized and respected within their fields Members should be able to speak authoritatively on geospatial matters and communicate complex issues to a broad audience in a simple manner Members should have a collaborative, consensus-building approach
