  1. BRI Funding Opportunities BRI/ORC MicroGrants: pilot program Application accepted on a rolling basis • Post-docs, clinical fellows and junior faculty (ranking assistant professor or below) in the BWH research community are invited to apply. Individuals may only be the recipient of one microgrant in this pilot phase. • Applicants must apply in advance of the event requiring support and may not receive support for events that have already occurred. More information: http://www.brighamandwomens.org/research/microgrants/ Fund to Sustain Research ExcellenceApplications due August 1, 2013 • Investigators that have recently submitted a non-mentored NIH grant application that was scored (un-scored applications will not be accepted), but just missed the payline, are eligible to apply for funding.  Applicants must be in need of support and have a potentially fundable R01 or similar non-mentored NIH grant, application can not be based on an A1 submission. R03, R21, F32 and ARRA Grants will not be eligible.  • Criteria for selection will include need and scientific merit. Scientific merit will be inferred from the NIH peer-review summary statement, priority score, and other application materials. BWH Faculty Mentoring Leadership Program (FMLP) Each of nine monthly sessions is a highly interactive, case-based discussion.  Applicants must meet the following criteria: • Assistant Professors and above • 5 years of mentoring experience; currently providing mentoring on career development, planning, HMS promotion and hospital advancement to one or more BWH faculty members on a regular basis • Commit to attend all sessions FMLP sections will be held 12:00-1:30pm on Tuesdays from October through June.  CME credit will be available.  Applications are available at the following link until Wednesday, July 24th: http://www.brighamandwomens.org/CFDD/FMLP

English as a Second Language (ESL) for Scientists Apply by August 1, 2013 Apply online at: http://bwhcfdd.partners.org/Listing.aspx?courseId=138 The Office for Research Careers, Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, and the Biomedical Research Institute are pleased to offer English as a Second Language for Scientists.  The course is geared toward postdoctoral fellows, and other BWH researchers may apply and will be accepted as space allows.  This course is designed to improve the communication skills of postdoctoral research fellows whose first language is not English and to help integrate them into their English-speaking environment. Class instruction will be highly interactive and conversation-based. Class size is limited so that each student is able to speak often and receive significant and useful feedback.  Two or three course levels will be offered, geared toward the majority of the participants, and based upon the results of placement testing.  Courses will be held onsite at BWH, once weekly.
