We experience many different cultural influences. Some more subtle than others, our family background, our name, meal times, traditions…. • During mentor you will be, or have already, explored your family background, plotting this information geographically on a map. Mentor
What we are about to show you, might surprise you, I have THREE questions. • What contribution do Europeans make to the cultural diversity of the world? • What FOUR simple daily luxuries would put you in the top 25% of the worlds rich list? • What % of the worlds people live on a $1.00 or less a day What does that look like on a global scale?

Cultural Diversity is as old as history itself….. • Cultural mixing in England began with the Roman invasion. • Followed by the Saxons, Vikings, Normans. • Diversity hit its peak, with Great Britain conquering the world, taking Britishness, engineering, education and of course our beloved… cricket out to the Empire. • Of course, people from the colonies flowed back. • Not forgetting more recent settlers from the Caribbean and Europe. Context
Each of these settlers brought with them different foods, fashions, languages, beliefs and lifestyles. • These have been absorbed into our culture and enrich our lives today. What impact does that have on Great Britain?
The Friday / Saturday night takeaway decision? • Naming of the newest family member? (Boy, girl, dog, cat or goldfish.) • Where did you last go on holiday? • What trends are you following? Clothes, music… • What are you learning about in PSREor History? • What and where will you find work? • And who for…..? What impact does that have on YOU?
We live in a country rich in cultural heritage. • Valuing our diversity is about respecting other peoples beliefs and ways of life. • Everyone is different and we should embrace differences. Valuing Our Cultural Diversity
