2. Background The PS4 and Xbox One both released in November of 2013, The PS4 UK release date was the 29th and the Xbox One released on the 22nd. Both had releases dates close to the Christmas holidays which would have supported their sales. They both had exclusive titles released for each platform in the following month of their release. Both were expected to make a significant difference in the gaming world. Both have similar hardware architecture. There was a lot of controversy regarding used game usage for both consoles however both have made it clear that they support them. Both have also made it clear that they won’t support backwards compatibly for older games for the time being.

3. PS4 • The PS4 was released on 29th November 2013 it had separate release dates for the US and the EU it launched at a price of £349. It had a few games that were available on release some notable ones were Killzone Shadowfall, Need for Speed Rivals and Battlefield 4. Killzone Shadowfall implemented a new feature that the PS4 had was that the user could choose which part of the game they wanted to play first such as the multiplayer or single player it would download one and whilst you are playing it would download the rest of the game without any loss in performance. The PS4 is currently leading the Xbox One by a significant lead mostly because of its price. The PS4 creators have emphasized the PS4s ability to share games which is to just give the game disc to a friend which was to mock Microsoft’s initial game sharing limitations through a DRM. The PS4 Controller has changed slightly from the DualShock 3 PS3 controller, it now has the move controller integrated into it and it has a touch pad on the controller that can be used by some games and can be used to navigate the menus.

4. Xbox One • The Xbox One was released 22nd November. It was also released with some exclusive games such as Deadrising 3, Son of Ryse, and Killer Instinct. When it was released it was £429.99 because it was bundled with the motion sensor camera called Kinect. Microsoft decision to include the Kinect with the Xbox One hurt their sales; some buyers are put off by the price tag. Some people have said that they would buy it if it wasn’t included because it would lower the price. The months leading to its release there was a lot of controversy because of its DRM policy that restricted user ability to share disc games however now they have changed their mind and decided not to implement that. So far Microsoft Xbox One best selling point has been Titanfall an exclusive game released earlier this year the release of the game increased the consoles sales by 100% in the UK. With the release of Titanfall a new bundle came out which included the console and the game but for a lower price at now £380 which also increased sales. Xbox One has aimed to be an all in one system and is trying to become the main device that is used with a TV at home to replace everything else.

6. My Opinion • In my opinion the better console is the PS4 because it’s made directly for gamers and that is their main target and after all that is what the console is made for. Also it is better optimised for graphics with its DDR5 ram utilisation which will help with it with games until the release of next generation of consoles. It is also cheaper than the Xbox One so it saves you some money which you can spend on games instead. It also has some award winning game titles available for it now and some even better games coming out later in the year such as Metal Gear Solid 5, Resogun, Killzone Shadowfall, Infamous Second Son and Destiny. The PS4 has already surpassed the PS3 in terms of what it offers the user in terms of features which the Xbox One still has catching up to do. As of now the PS4 is better however in the end neither console is better because the only thing both consoles can do now is get better.
