  1. Parents Love Giving Gifts • It makes us happy to see our children happy. • Unfortunately, the gifts we seem to give today are often centered on the material things.

  2. The Rechabites (Jer. 35) • What Jonadab (son of Rechab) gave his children was priceless! • His children understood, embraced and shared the gifts he gave them… to their children… and their children to theirs.

  3. Gifts That Matter the Most • What about gifts that are centered on the greatest gift one can give: a joyful and enduring relationship with God! • This is what Jonadab (son of Rechab) gave to his children (and their future offspring).

  4. The gifts of Humility, Simplicity, and Integrity. • While there was no OT law against wine (outside priestly duties or the Nazarite vow): Jonadab commanded against it. Jer. 35:6 • They were to live in tents, live off the land (not plant seed/vineyard). Jer. 35:7

  5. The gift of long life. • The purpose of commanding a simple, nomadic and alcohol free life was to bless them with: simplicity, humility, and integrity. • Jonadab’s children honored their father (grandfather, great-grandfather). Exo. 20:12; Eph. 6:1-3

  6. The gift of fellowship with God. Ultimately, the gift that Jonadabgave his offspring was what God gave to His offspring: fellowship with Him.

  7. What Legacy Will You Leave Behind? • Material gifts eventually get thrown away or break down. • The enduring gifts of God keeps on blessing generation after generation. • This gift is not limited from a parent to his children, but from God’s children to any and all who will accept the gift of life.
