Absalom…the Bad Son • David had a son called Absalom. • Absalom was always disobedient to the orders given by David his father. • One day, he decided to kill his father because he wanted to be the king.
Ahithophel was Absalom’s advisor and was making plans for the battle against the army of King David. • Ahithophel was also making plans for Absalom to kill his father King David.
Battle Preparation • David and his servants fled to the mountain and prepared an army to fight Absalom’s army • The people said to David: Do not come with us to fight because our enemies want to kill you. • David said: “If you win and find my Son Absalom, deal gently for my sake with him and do not kill him”
While he was riding his mule under the trees, his long hair got stuck in the branches of a tree.
The captain of the army ordered a soldier to kill him but the soldier said “Haven’t you heard the king say: Be gentle with Absalom? He will grieve if he hears of his death as he loves him”.
The captain of the army aimed arrows at Absalom and killed him.
David stayed behind and was anxious about his son Absalom. • A soldier arrived and told him that David’s army won victory. • David asked if Absalom his son was well. David was very sad when he learned of the death of his son, despite all what Absalom did against him.
David wept for the death of his son Absalom. He cried saying: “I wish I died instead of you my son Absalom”
Conclusion • David was worried and wanted Absalom safe even after all what he has done against him. Absalom actually wanted to kill his father. • The parents are the most forgiving and loving people out of all the people that surround us and we get to know. They support us at time of sorrow and time of joy. They are always there for us whenever we need them. Therefore, we owe them love, respect and honor. • Who remembers the fifth commandment?
