David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies • What is DRCLAS? • Overseas offices in: • Santiago, Chile (2002) • São Paulo, Brazil (2006) • Mexico City, Mexico (2012) • Since 2005, thousands of Harvard students have participated the summer immersion programs • DRCLAS also funds students for thesis research, graduates for conference travel & student groups for on-campus events

SIP: Summer Internship Programs • SIP LOCATIONS: • Buenos Aires, Argentina • São Paulo, Brazil • Santiago, Chile • Mexico City, México • 8-Week duration • Graduates & Undergraduates • Internship Placement (4 - 5 day work-week) • Host-family placement • Cultural activities run by DRCLAS staff on Fridays

IOP Director’s Internships IOP LOCATIONS: • Rio de Janeiro, BrazilInstituto Igarapé: Independent think & do tank devoted to evidence-based policy and action on complex security, justice and development challenges in Brazil, Latin America, and Africa. Based in the South, the Institute undertakes diagnostics, generates awareness, and co-designs solutions with public and private partners, often with the use of new technologies. • Santiago, ChileMinisterio de Hacienda (Dept. of Treasury):Mission is to maximize the potential of long-term growth for the economy with better use of productive resources in the country. This aims to achieve a better quality of life for all Chileans, especially the most neglected and vulnerable areas. • México City, MéxicoComisión Nacional de Búsqueda:Offers centralized governmental support to those who are searching for desaparecidos, Mexico’s missing. Works closely with family members of those who've disappeared, other local/state search commissions, other governmental institutions, as well as international bodies. • Country-level stipend • 8-10 Week Programs • Apply through DRCLAS • Deadline: February 11 @ 11:59 PM • Interview with DRCLAS the week of February 18

HBS Internships Latin America Research Center Locations: • São Paulo, Brazil • Buenos Aires, Argentina • Tasks • Case writing • Desk Research • Pitching ideas in the discovery/ development phase of cases • Country-level stipend • 8-10 Week Programs • Apply through DRCLAS • Deadline: February 11 @ 11:59 PM • Interview with DRCLAS the week of February 18

Colegio de México • Summer Study Abroad between 5 - 8 weeks • Open to undergraduates only • Cultural activities w/ SIP students • Local host-family housing placement • 5 week program: • Intensive courses in Spanish with local students • Course Examples: La violencia en México; Antropología del arte e historia cultural de México; México, siglo XX; Sistemaspolíticos y políticapública en México; Las relacionesinternacionales de México • 8-week program: • Additional 3 weeks of independent research

Fees & Funding • Airfare is NOT included in the program fee • DRCLAS is often able to fund eligible undergraduate & graduate students • The Office of Career Services (OCS) offers funding opportunities for eligible undergraduates • Apply for both through your program application • **8-week COLMEX students apply for non-Harvard OCS study abroad funding separately

Funding Breakdown DRCLAS Funding Eligibility • Undergraduates & Graduates: • Repeat recipients welcome • Need-based only • Varies based on country, need & fee OCS Funding Eligibilitywith 2019 Updates: • Undergraduates Only: • 1st time recipients only • Lottery system • Amount varies based on financial aid levels • Can’t return to home

How to Apply • All DRCLAS programs use the same application • CARAT for undergraduate & graduate students (check title for level) • Students fill out ONE application, regardless of how many programs to which they apply (max of 3) • Deadline: Monday, February 11 @ 11:59 PM • Students must upload the additional Supplemental Coversheet (see website for step-by-step process) • Students must interview in Spanish/Portuguese with program managers February 18 - 22 • http://drclas.harvard.edu/pages/summer-application-information
