In this group discussion activity for the year 2013, students are encouraged to actively participate by discussing various aspects of school life with the new principal, Mr. Angell. The aim is to explore crucial topics affecting daily school experiences, such as school timings, the curriculum, uniform policies, and clubs. Students should formulate four key questions to seek Mr. Angell's insights and experiences on potential changes or improvements. This collaborative effort promotes teamwork and helps students articulate their expectations from their new headteacher.

Group Discussions Discussions will now focus on key areas of school life that affect you every day, areas in which you may want to see changes, areas that you can question Mr Angell about, find out his opinion/ experience. In your group explore these areas and decide what you would like to ask his opinion about. Make a note of your key questions.

The curriculum and timetable: option subjects subjects on offer core, compulsory subjects split classes, numbers in classes.
Uniform, jewellery and equipment: include P.E. Kit equipment for lessons/ exams.
Vertical tutoring system: What other tutor groups have you experienced? Is this system better than others? What are the advantages/ disadvantages?
Clubs and trips: Are clubs a good idea? Should they/ some be organised differently? Do you have enough quality trips provided in a good range of subject areas? Could any improvements be made?
What do you want from your new head teacher? Discuss this question in your groups. You can draw up a list, if you wish, this can be handed on to Mr Angell. You can think of a couple of appropriate interview style questions to ask Mr Angell about his thoughts/ beliefs on relevant areas not already covered.
