Introduction • Philosophy • The law or the rules of the penalty kill vs power play • Stats • Different forechecking systems of styles • The language of the defensive zone in PK • I hope you learn something and your PK will be better next year
Philosophy • The New Rules vs Old Rules • The best PK = Goaltending vs Face off’s • Do we judge a good team by the quality of his special units • Ideally you do not want them to score • In reality, you want to give the shot from the worst angle possible • What do you want to give up in the: Offensive Zone Neutral Zone Defensive Zone
Philosophy • What do we want to give up in the offensive zone? • Smart • When to be aggressive or passive • Don’t chase behind the net, unless you are close to the puck carrier • Don’t finish your check • Angling and pressuring – inside to the outside (you have to skate) • Stick down and protect the middle • First forechecker dictates the job of the second forechecker • Take away the best forechecker
Philosophy • What do you want to give up in the Neutral Zone? • Want to protect the middle • Want to force them to one side • Trapp • Stand up and force the dump • Cover the blue line with 3 players
Philosophy • What do we want to give up in the defensive zone • They have to shoot from the worst angle as possible. • Create a battle to protect the puck • Early press on the dump, create a loose puck • Early pressure on an entry in control • No hitting for the recovery • No clears on backhands • Blocking shots and not Flamingo • Shooting lane and passing lane • Imaginary line down low • Dot rule • Flush
