Progress and Future Prospects of ETC/ACC in Air Quality and Climate Change Research
The ETC/ACC has undergone a positive review by a committee, leading to a recommendation for the renewal of its funding agreement. Achievements include the completion of key reports on air pollution and greenhouse gas trends, as well as scenario work for integrated assessments. Upcoming focuses involve new topics such as Emission Trading and regional climate adaptation, alongside continued support for air quality policy and country-specific initiatives. For more details, visit the ETC website for reports and presentations.

ETC-ACC progress and prospects Rob Swart and Frank de Leeuw
1. ORGANIZATION • ETC/ACC has been reviewed by a review committee with representatives of the EEA Scientific Committee, EEA management, DG ENV and a EU Member State (March 2003) • The result of the review was generally positive, with suggestions to increase attention to climate change, health effects of air pollution, accessibility of air quality data
1. ORGANIZATION • Afterwards, DG ENV has requested to continue air quality work at the same level as before • At a EEA Management Board workhop it has been recommended to renew the current 3-year ETC/ACC grant agreement (July 2003) • Final decision about the future of the ETC/ACC to be taken at the November Manegement Board meeting
2. GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS • Finalization of various draft reports: • Air Pollution 2000 • Ozone report 2003 • EU GHG and AE inventory reports • EU GHG Trends and Projections reports • Climate Change State and Impacts Indicators
2. GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS • Production of fact sheets (energy, transport, agriculture, air quality) • Pilot review of air emissions data (CLRTAP, NEC) with MSC-West
2. GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS • Preparation of scenariowork for SoEOR2005 (integrated assessment) • Pilot review of NEC plans and programmes, projections • Policy support air quality (CAFE Working Groups)
2. GENERAL ACHIEVEMENTS • Policy support climate change (GHG MM, UNFCCC negotiations) • Country support (country visits, EIONET workshops, direct support)
Near future • Continuation for 1-3 (-5) year • Changed consortium • ´new´ topics: • Emission Trading Directive • regional climate change impacts/adaptation • indicator for population exposure • enhanced contribution to SoEOR2005 report
Follow up 7th workshop • Report and presentations available on ETC-website (meetings/past events): http://air-climate.eionet.eu.int/docs/meetings/0206_EIONET_AQ_TFMM_18mar02/meeting0206.html • spatial coverage of AirBase information
