Hitler Biography • Born 1889 into a poor family • Did not do well in school • Temporarily blinded in a mustard gas attack • Slowly rose to power to what is now known as the Nazi Party • Hitler was jailed • He wrote ‘Mein Kampf’ • Appointed as Chancellor of Germany in 1933 • He became president in 1934 • He had started the Holocaust • Before being caught, he committed suicide with his girlfriend

  3. Coming to Power • Early 1930s- Country economic crisis • A powerful speaker and influencer • This rapidly brought the Nazi Party to power • 1933- appointed chancellor (Head of the German Government)

  4. Becoming President • In the 1932 presidential elections Hitler lost to President Hindenburg • Hindenburg had to appoint Hitler as Chancellor • 1934- Hindenburg dies • Election occurs • Hitler wins 90% of the vote

  5. Hatred Towards Jews • Propelled him into politics • Led him to what is known as the Holocaust • Focused on Jews • Others include the disabled, Gypsies, Poles, etc. • Killed more than 6 million Jews

  6. Start of The Holocaust • Means “sacrifice to fire” • Started with a boycott • Jews executed from daily life through The Nuremburg Laws • More laws added • Jews forced to wear The Star of David

  7. The Holocaust: Ghettos • All Jews moved into Ghettos • Deportations from Ghettos • To get them on the train the Nazis lied

  8. Concentration Camps • Life was horrible • Hard physical labor • Small rations • 3 plus people per bunk • Torture and death common • Prisoners killed, burned • Doctors experimented on prisoners

  9. Death • Hitler killed himself and his girlfriend • Fear of being captured
