  1. Requirements for MPLS OAM in transport networks Matthew Bocci (Alcatel-Lucent) Italo Busi (Alcatel-Lucent)

  2. Background • There exist applications for MPLS where: • MPLS is used for packet transport services • Aggregation/transport of all services in a common, client-agnostic manner • Strictly deterministic SLA guarantees and network behaviour • Operational characteristics differ from the way we have traditionally managed IP networks • Mechanisms to suit these applications described in draft-ietf-pwe3-mpls-transport-01.txt • ITU-T developed T-MPLS to address this

  3. Objectives • Bring requirements for MPLS OAM in transport applications into the IETF community • Requirements originated from transport applications, as per ITU-T supplement Y Suppl.4 (former G.8113 draft) • Translate ITU-T definitions into IETF language • Put in context of wider MPLS OAM topic • Identify new and/or overlapping requirements • Identify and get consensus on new OAM capabilities needed for transport applications

  4. Status and contributors • No draft published yet – work in progress • Plan to submit first version in time for Dublin • Current co-contributors: • Loa Anderson, Dinesh Mohan, Stewart Bryant, Dave Allan, Lieven Levrau, Huub van Helvoort, Marc Lasserre, Yuji Tochio • Please speak to one of us if you are interested
