Mission: • Reduce chronic conditions associated with tobacco use, physical activity, and nutrition. • Vision: • Employees and family members avoid tobacco, eat nutritiously, engage in adequate levels of physical activity, achieve and maintain a healthy weight, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood glucose, and experience improved mental health.

  3. Wellness Program Goals: • Prevent, detect, and reducemodifiable risk factors for diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, respiratory diseases, and arthritis. • Create a healthy worksite culture. • Build wide supportand collaboration. • Evaluate and continuouslyimproveinitiatives.

Organizationleaders don’t want health advice, they wanteconomic advice. – Dee Edington, PhD, Health Management Research Center, University of Michigan City and Participating Government leaders are beginningto realize that workplace wellness programs are a wise investment to combat rising health care costs and to improve employee health.

Leaders do not have to be health nuts to help the wellness program succeed! • Set an example by participating in the BetterHealth program and community wellness activities. • Communicate the importance of healthier eating habits and physical activity through written correspondence, public addresses or presentations.

  13. How Leadership Can Demonstrate Support • Ask your managers and supervisors tosupporttheir workers in becoming involved in the program. • Set department goals for success. • Provide feedback to all key people involved. • Make wellness experiences very positive and non-punitive.

  15. Produce for Better Health Foundation • Created in 1991 as a nonprofit health education foundation. • Encourages people to eat more fruits and vegetables to improve public health. Reminds consumers that the most important thing they can do is eat more fruits and veggies, regardless of whether they are fresh, frozen, canned, dried, or 100% juice. • Collaborates with government agencies, public health partners, educators, nonprofits, members of the fruit and vegetable industry, and other private organizations. • Offers a variety of marketing and nutrition education materials and resources through website, Facebook, Twitters, blogs, and online product catalog.
