Main findings (1) New Central Library needed to deliver modern public library service UoE & SEEC also need new library facilities Combined Library offers significant benefits… Southend at the cutting edge of library provision Learning & skills Community & culture Business & Regeneration 10,000 sq m of space required

Main findings (2) Content carefully selected for each floor Ground floor – engaging uses Welcome / staff help Leisure reading…books, newspapers…all ages/family Easy access ICT facilities Play area Café Focal Point Gallery Information Shop Business Centre Upper floors…reading lounge / informal learning / FE/HE library areas / child protection

  7. Main findings (3) Farringdon Car Park site identified as preferred location…masterplanning work ongoing Potential opening 2013…but significant further work to be progressed Integration Community engagement Budget planning Learning from other developments
